What SEPA?

SEPA, short for Single Euro Payments Area, makes it possible to make and receive euro payments both within national borders and across them under the same basic conditions, rates, rights and obligations.

The SEPA zone comprises 32 countries: the EU and EEA member states, Switzerland and Monaco. In this area, there are about 490 million people and almost 72 billion electronic payment transactions are conducted yearly.

SEPA consists of three parts – credit transfer, direct debit and card payments. The new XML format, based on ISO 20022, has been adopted as the standard for SEPA transactions.
