OpusCapita supports new BGC encryption algorithm
On 1 April 2008, Bankgirocentralen (BGC) launched a new file encryption key designed to protect files from unauthorised modification during transfer to BGC. OpusCapita’s software now supports the new HMAC format, which replaces the previous MAA format.
Anyone who makes bankgiro payments to BGC is probably familiar with the expression “seal generation algorithms”, which are also called “keys”. These keys are used to prevent the decryption of files during transfer to BGC. Last year saw the launch of the HMAC key, which provides greater protection from modification as well as increased security.
“As the banks have very demanding security requirements, BGC and the Swedish Bankers’ Association have together decided to launch the HMAC key,” says Vesa Kalliokoski, Team Manager for Product and Marketing Management at OpusCapita.
Changes for OpusCapita’s users
The introduction of the HMAC key means that those customers who use OpusCapita’s system for bankgiro payments need to take action.
“Our customers need to contact their bank and ask for HMAC keys and they also need to update their OpusCapita software if they are using version 3.15 or older. All affected customers have been contacted and know what to do,” says Vesa Kalliokoski.
OpusCapita recommends that customers use the latest version (release 2) of OpusCapita 2009, which includes HMAC functionality.
“The launch of the HMAC key means that the previous MAA key will be phased out. It will be discontinued as of 31 March 2009,” says Vesa Kalliokoski.
