OpusCapita - The first software company to enter the SEPA payments channel
The EU Commission has set the target of establishing a single market for payment transactions inside the European Economic Area (EEA). SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) i.e. the integrated euro payments area, represents the greatest ever change to payment transactions in Europe. With respect to information systems, this will be a bigger change than the changeover to the single currency.
The SEPA era officially became a reality as early as on 28 January 2008, but countries, banks and businesses will join it in stages. Outside the banking sector, OpusCapita was the first software company in Finland to send payment data and collect bank statements from Nordea Bank using the Web Services facility.
“Instead of the promises represented by SEPA, companies now expect genuine action. We have for long been testing connections and data with Finnish banks,” comments Product Management Manager Vesa Kalliokoski of OpusCapita. “We wanted to ensure that our customers are among the first to gain the benefits of SEPA services.”
Inside the SEPA area, euro-denomination payments can be made and received within a country or across state borders using the same terms and conditions, prices, rights and obligations. The SEPA area comprises 31 countries: all of the EU and EEA countries together with Switzerland. The area has around 8,000 banks, 480 million inhabitants and circa 25 million businesses.
